Kyoto-kan Events for June-July 2004

Woodblock Printing Course
June 3 (Thurs.), 2:00 to 4:00 pm
This course, given by Mr. Takenaka, will run for 12 classes over the period of one year, and will be held the first Thursday of every month. It will study the basic techniques of carving and grinding and the peculiar techniques used in the woodblock printing based on simple designs.
Reservations required
Fees: 6,000 yen for non-members for one class; 4,800 yen for members

Cooking Seminar: Facing Summer
June 7 (Mon.); from 2:00 to 3:30 pm
Mr. Nishikawa will prepare dishes that he learned to make while training in a Zen temple.
Reservations required; maximum of 40 people
Fees: 1,000 yen for non-member, 800 yen for members

Ikebana Seminar (in English)
June 19 (Sat.) from 2:00 to 3:30 pm
Professor Kenneth Jones from the Ikenobo school will give a lecture in flower arranging. The Ikenobo school, whose history extends back to the beginnings of ikebana, combines the traditional with the modern, encouraging new developments in the art.

Seisuke88 2004 New Creations
July 1 (Thu.) to 10 (Sat.); 10:30 am to 7:30 pm (opens at 12 noon on the 1st and closes at 5:30 pm on the 10th)
The textile traditions of the Nishijin district in Kyoto will come alive using the latest printing technology. Traditional designs and patterns from the Edo, Meiji, Taisho and Showa eras will be printed on T-shirts.
