Shinagawa-ku International Friendship Association (SIFA) Announcements
1. Japanese-Language Classes for Foreign Residents
Period: Tuesdays and Thursdays, from April 18 through June 29 (excludes May 2 and May 4; total of 20 classes)
Morning Class: 10:00 a.m. to 12 noon
Afternoon Class: 1:30 to 3:30 p.m.
Evening Class: 6:30 to 8:30 p.m.
Eligibility: 18 foreign residents who live or work in Shinagawa (on a first-come, first-served basis) for each class (six in all)
Lessons:
Part 1 (for those learning Japanese for the first time) morning and evening classes
Part 2 (for those who can read and write hiragana and katakana) afternoon and evening classes
Part 3 (for those with everyday conversation skills) afternoon and evening classes
Tuition: ¥7,000 per course (textbook fee included)
2. Ikebana Flower Arrangement Class for Foreign and Japanese Residents
Period: Fridays, from April 14 through July 7, 1:30 to 3:30 p.m. (excludes May 5; a total of 12 classes)
Eligibility: 12 foreigners and 8 Japanese who live or work in Shinagawa (selected by lottery)
Tuition: ¥14,000
Application Deadline: March 17 (Fri.) (must be received by this date)
For the Abovementioned Classes
To Apply: Apply via the website application form, post card or by fax to the SIFA office (by the application deadline for 2) with the class you wish to join (include the time and Part for 1), your address and postal code, name (with furigana), age, sex, telephone number, employer’s name, address and phone number if you work in Shinagawa, and your nationality (for foreign residents).
*Only one application may be filed per person.
We Support Independent Activities in Shinagawa
SIFA offers support/subsidies for programs with the theme of friendly exchanges with foreign residents who live in Shinagawa, planned and implemented independently by Shinagawa residents and approved by the Association.
Application Period: Applications are accepted on an ongoing basis
Description of Support/Subsidies: Subsidies for funds, permission for use of the Association’s name for sponsorship, etc.
*Designated requirements must be fulfilled. Please call for more information.
*Programs for commercial profit, religious objectives or political themes are not eligible.
