Just a three-minute walk from Aomono Yokocho Station on the Keikyu Main Line, this ancient temple was built in 1285. The main hall, which was rebuilt in the mid-18th century, is a magnificent sight to behold. The Oeshiki Festival is held here around October 13, which many people come to enjoy.

The gravestones of many famous people are located in this cemetery, including those of Yoshimura Isaburo, who the kabuki Kirare Yosaburo is based on, as well as the Meiji period Rokyoku storytellers Tochuken Kumoemon and Omatsuri Sashichi, and Sengoku Period swordsman Ito Ittosai.

This was once a very steep hill known as Sengenzaka Slope. During the Meiji Period, however, an Englishman named James used his own money to ease the slope, which was then renamed after him.
Today, on both sides of the Zemusu-zaka Slope, there are Chinese scholar trees which bloom pale yellow flowers in early summer. People enjoy looking at them as they pass by.
