Take Advantage of Municipal Libraries
There are 10 municipal libraries in Shinagawa City. These libraries provide books, and in some cases magazines and newspapers, in foreign languages. In this issue, we will explain the procedures for using a municipal library.
The Shinagawa Library has the highest number of foreign-language materials in the city: English, Chinese and Korean. Ebara Library, Gotanda Library and Yashio Library also have materials in English. Please feel free to use the English picture books available at all of the libraries. CDs and DVDs (in Shinagawa and Ebara Library only) are also available.

How to Use the Library
Anyone can use the library free of charge. You can borrow books regardless of whether or not you live, work or go to school in Shinagawa City. For this reason, you must register for a library card. Please provide some form of identification with your name and address on it, such as a driver’s license or your foreign resident registration card, and complete the registration procedures at the counter of your local Shinagawa municipal library.
Each library has information on how to use Shinagawa municipal libraries, in English, Chinese and Korean.
If the Book or Magazine You are Looking for is Not Available
If you cannot find the material you would like to use, or if it is checked out at the time, please complete a Reservations Request Form and submit it at the library counter. If the material is not a part of the Shinagawa municipal library collection, the library will borrow it from the Metropolitan Library, or may purchase materials for which many requests have been made. However, this does not mean that the library will be able to fulfill all requests. In addition, requests cannot be filed for audio-visual material such as CDs and DVDs, nor for comic books.
Internet Use
All municipal libraries have an Internet computer for research and learning, and any one person can use it for one hour, free of charge. Software programs for e-mail, chat rooms, bulletin boards, etc. cannot be used. There is also work space at the Shinagawa, Osaki, Gotanda, and Yashio Libraries, where you can work using your own laptop computer.
