Happy New Year!
 I hope everyone is celebrating the New Year and feeling refreshed.
At the end of last year, on the 60th anniversary of the implementation of the Local Government Act, Shinagawa City was awarded the Minister of Internal Affairs and Communications Award. With the emperor and empress in attendance at the awards ceremony, we were honored to receive the prize as a representative of Tokyo along with 111 local governments across Japan that had achieved significant growth. I believe that our success was due to the cooperation of the city assembly, and most of all, the support of all the city residents. I am deeply thankful.
To further facilitate the steady growth of our city, we are taking steps in the right direction, namely, toward implementing Shinagawa City’s basic concepts, which will serve as a guide for the government of Shinagawa City. I believe the key to achieving this is sharing the wisdom and power of the residents who live, work, study, and play in Shinagawa City as well as working together. I shall strive to continue working on making our city an even more wonderful and comfortable place to live together with each and every one of you.
