There are all kinds of festivals held throughout the year in various communities of Shinagawa City. In this issue, we will describe the three major summer festivals of Shinagawa.
• Shinagawa Noryo Festival Dates: August 2 (Sat.) and 3 (Sun.) Location: Nishi-Oi Hiroba Park Nearest station: JR Nishi-Oi Station
This is one of the major festivals in Shinagawa City. Enjoy the Awa-odori (dance) and refreshment stands as well as other fun events.
• Oi Dontaku Festival Dates: August 30 (Sat.) and 31 (Sun.) Location: Oimachiekimae Chuo-Dori Avenue Nearest station: JR Oimachi Station
This year’s annual summer event in Oimachi will be the 54th time it will be held. A bon-odori (dance) and the powerful beat of Oi gongen daiko (drums) are among the highlights of this event.
• Children’s Festival: Jumbo Rolled Sushi Event Date: August 25 (Mon.) Location: Ebaramachi Shopping District Nearest station: Ebaramachi Station on the Oimachi Line
At this event, local children work together with people in the community to make jumbo rolled sushi.
