Pleasant Walking Courses in Shinagawa
Take a break in the middle of the city. Why not walk through city parks while enjoying the natural scenery of the season?
1.Ikedayama Park Ikedayama Park
This park makes good use of its most outstanding geographical feature: two distinct levels at different heights.
You can enjoy the Japanese garden in the Strolling Zone on the lower level and the lakeside scenery in the Play & Rest Zone on the higher level.
Hours: 7:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. (until 6:00 p.m. in July and August)
Location: 5-4 Higashi-Gotanda
How to get there: An approximate 15-minute walk from Gotanda Station or Meguro Station
2.Nemunoki Garden Nemunoki Garden
This park was constructed on the former site of the home that belonged to Empress Michiko’ parents. You can enjoy the beauty of a rose called Princess Michiko as well as various seasonal flowers and greenery.
Hours: 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. (closed from December 29 through January 3)
Location: 5-19 Higashi-Gotanda
How to get there: An approximate 10-minute walk from Gotanda Station
3.Rinshi no Mori Park Rinshi no Mori Park
With over 6,500 trees, you can enjoy the feeling of being in a forest without leaving the city.
Location: 2-6 Koyamadai
How to get there: An approximate 10-minute walk from Musashi-Koyama Station
4.Togoshi Park Togoshi Park
This park has a promenade that makes its way around a pond. The park also has a waterfall and a man-made mountain. There are remnants, such as old-style gates called yakui-mon and kabuki-mon, of a feudal lord’s second home from the Edo period.

How to get there: An approximate five-minute walk from Togoshi Koen Station
5.Shinagawa Chuo Park Shinagawa Chuo Park
This park has a nice open space with seasonal flowers, a fountain, and green grass. There are facilities, such as Trim Plaza, where you can do simple exercises; a multipurpose area for such sports as football (reservations required); and tennis courts (reservations required).
Location: 1-20, 1-27, and 1-28 Nishi-Shinagawa
How to get there: An approximate five-minute walk from Shimoshinmei Station
6.Shinagawa Historical Museum and Its Garden Shinagawa Historical Museum and Its Garden
At this museum, you can learn about the history of Shinagawa. The garden has a Japanese-style tearoom, and you can enjoy the harplike sounds of suikinkutsu (an upside-down stone basin), which provides an Edo-period ambience.
Hours: Tuesdays through Sundays, 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.
Note: Closed on national holidays
Admission: ¥100 for adults, ¥50 for elementary and junior high school students
Note: Free of charge for those 70 years of age or older, those with disabilities, and Shinagawa municipal elementary and junior high school students
Location: 6-11-1 Oi
How to get there: An approximate 10-minute walk from Omori Station
7.Higashi-Shinagawa Kaijo Park Higashi-Shinagawa Kaijo Park
This park faces Tennozu-unga Canal. There is a slide with a whale motif, a rooftop garden that includes herbs, and a boardwalk along the canal.
Hours (rooftop garden): 9:00 a.m. to 9:00 p.m.
Location: 2-6 and 3-9 Higashi-Shinagawa
How to get there:An approximate five-minute walk from Tennozu Isle Station
8.Shinagawa Hanakaido Avenue Shinagawa Hanakaido Avenue
Along the bank of Katsushima-unga Canal, you can enjoy seasonal flowers, such as rape blossoms, cherry blossoms, and cosmos.
Location: 2 Higashi-Oi, 1 Katsushima
How to get there: An approximate 10-minute walk from Tachiaigawa Station
9.Shinagawa Kumin Park Shinagawa Kumin Park
This spacious park has an area of land that is three times the size of Tokyo Dome. There are various flowers that bloom with each season, a man-made lake filled with seawater, and a sports area. Shinagawa Aquarium, which is located in the park, is quite popular, too.
Hours: 6:00 a.m. to 9:30 p.m.
Note: Some of the park gates close before closing time.
(Shinagawa Aquarium: 10:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. [admission until 30 minutes before closing], closed on Tuesdays and January 1)
Location: 3-2 Katsushima, 2-3 Minami-Oi
How to get there: An approximate eight-minute walk from Tachiaigawa Station or Omori Kaigan Station
10.Nagisa no Mori (Within Oi Futo Chuo Kaihin Park) Nagisa no Mori (Within Oi Futo Chuo Kaihin Park)
This part of Oi Futo Chuo Kaihin Park is rich in natural greenery. It has a bird-watching house and an observation wall, making it an ideal place for bird-watchers. You can enjoy fishing there as well.
Location: 4-1 Yashio
How to get there:An approximate eight-minute walk from Oi Keibajomae Station
