Did you know that there are 10 public libraries in the city, one in each neighborhood?
Anyone can use the library free of charge, regardless of age or nationality.
At the library, there are various materials, such as general books, books for children, magazines, newspapers, and CDs. You can read the materials at the library or borrow items that can be checked out and enjoy them at home for a designated period of time. In addition, you can use the library’s computer to go on the Internet.
Shinagawa Library, which is the largest in the city, has a lot of books in foreign languages (English, Chinese, and Korean). Please take advantage of what is available!
How to Use the Library
To borrow materials or go on the Internet, you must have a library card. Complete the application form and show some form of identification with your address in Japan on it (such as your foreign resident registration card, student ID card, driver’s license, or insurance card) at the circulation desk. A library card can be issued on the spot. This library card can be used at any Shinagawa municipal library.
Borrowing Items: Please show your library card at the circulation desk when you want to borrow items.
Returning Items: You can return items to any Shinagawa municipal library. You do not need to show your library card when returning items. When the library is closed, you can return books in the book drop. However, please do not return audiocassettes, CDs, videocassettes, or DVDs in this box.
