The 27th Shinagawa Disaster Prevention Fair


Ladder climbingJanuary 17 is the day the Great Hanshin-Awaji Earthquake struck. Shinagawa City holds the Disaster Prevention Fair at this time of year. Let’s learn about disaster prevention in case of an emergency.

January 14 (Fri.), 10:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.
January 15 (Sat.), 9:30 a.m. to 3:00 p.m.
Note: Some events may be cancelled in the event of rain.

14th (Fri.)
Openingfrom 10:00 a.m.
Citizens fire brigade and minipump brigade appreciation award ceremony
 
15th (Sat.)
Special events (will be held from 11:00 a.m. in the order listed below)
  1. Traditional demonstrations by the Shinagawa Matoi
  Conservation Association: Kiyari (working song), matoifuri
 
(banner waving), and ladder climbing demonstrations
 2. Rescue demonstration by the Metropolitan Police
  Department’s Mobile Rescue Unit and police dogs

Fire Rescue Task Forces (also known as Hyper Rescue)
  demonstration
—from 1:00 p.m.
Ladder truck ride given by the fire department
(for elementary- and junior high-school age children; 40 people per session on a first come, first served basis)—(1) from 10:00 a.m. (reception from 9:30 a.m.) and (2) from 1:30 p.m. (reception from 12:30 p.m.)
Note:
Reception is at the Disaster Prevention Center.
Serving of tempura udon
from 11:00 a.m. (¥100 per serving, 350 servings, while supplies last)
Serving of tonjiru (miso soup with pork)
from 10:30 a.m. (only for those who complete the “stamp rally” [a collection of seals stamped at designated locations]; 300 servings, while supplies last)
 
14th and 15th

Mobile earthquake simulator and mini-fire truck ride
• Police motorcycle and Self-Defense Force motorcycle exhibit
• Hands-on experience: Using the 171 disaster emergency message dial service
• Shinagawa Shelter model exhibit
• Mediation for the purchase of fire extinguishers and free inspection for fire extinguishers
• Exhibition of disaster prevention supplies
• Disaster prevention “stamp rally” (gifts offered)
