Multilingual Guided Tours for Foreign Residents


Shinagawa City offers multilingual services at city events in cooperation with volunteers of the Guide Shinagawa TOKYO group that is part of the Shinagawa Tourist Association so that everyone will become more familiar with Shinagawa City. Foreign residents who can speak Japanese are welcomed as well. Please feel free to come to the venue on the day of the event.

1. Disaster Prevention Fair
Date and Time: January 15 (Sat.), 10:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.
Program: 3-D movie and mobile earthquake simulator showing what it is like to experience an earthquake; first-stage fire-extinguishing drills using a fire extinguisher; kiyari (working song), matoifuri (banner waving), and ladder climbing demonstrations by the Edo Firemanship Preservation Association; and more
Languages: English and Chinese
Eligibility: 20 foreign residents who live in Shinagawa City (on a first come, first served basis)
How to Participate: Please come to the entrance of Dai-ni Chosha at 10:30 a.m. on the day of the event.

2. Traditional Crafts and Tastes of Shinagawa Exhibition
Date and Time: January 23 (Sun.), 10:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Note: Reception is open until 4:30 p.m.
Program: Exhibition and demonstrations of traditional crafts, such as tegaki yuzen (hand painted yuzen dyeing) and ukiyo-e printing, and introduction to the tastes of Shinagawa, such as Japanese sweets and manually grilled rice crackers.
Languages: English, Chinese, French, and Italian
How to Participate: Please come to the seventh-floor Event Hall of Curian (in front of Oimachi Station) on the day of the event.
