Child Allowance (Kodomo-Teate) Starting from October

All eligible people must complete a new application for Child Allowance (Kodomo-Teate), as the eligibility and amount have changed from October. This includes all those who had been receiving the allowance before October.
Note: Application forms and announcements were mailed in late October.

●Eligible Age of Children and Allowance Period
From 0 years of age (portion for the month after birth) until the first March after the child reaches 15 years of age

●Eligibility Requirements

• Children must live in Japan. However, this excludes cases in which the child is temporarily studying abroad.
  Note:Please inquire about detailed requirements for cases in which the child is studying abroad.
• The parents and children must have a visa status other than short-term stay.
  Note: If the visa expires, the allowance will also be terminated.

●Application and Allowance Periods

1. For parents/guardians and children who live in Shinagawa City (and having completed foreign resident registration) as of September 30: If an application is filed by March 31, 2012, allowances dating back to October will be provided.
2. For families who gave birth or who moved into Shinagawa City on or after October 1, 2011: Allowances will be provided from the month following application.
   Note: Backdated allowances will not be provided.

●Application Procedures

1. For those who receive an application form in the mail: Mail your completed form along with the required documents.
2. For those who have not received an application form in the mail: Bring the applicant's bankbook, health insurance card, and personal seal (a signature is acceptable if you do not have a personal seal).
