To All Foreign Residents:
Please Confirm Your Provisional Resident Record

Effective July 9 (Mon.), the current Alien Registration Act will be abolished, and the registration system for foreign residents will change.

● Resident Records (Juminhyo) Will Also Be Created for Foreign Residents
Under the new system, the Basic Resident Registration Act will apply to foreign residents in the same manner it does to Japanese residents, and a resident record will be made for foreign residents as well.
◆ Resident Records Will Be Created for the Following Individuals:
- Medium- to long-term residents (those living in Japan with a valid visa of over three months)
- Special permanent residents
- Persons granted permission for temporary refuge or provisional stay
- Persons who may continue to stay transitionally in Japan by birth or those who have lost Japanese nationality

● A Provisional Resident Record Will Be Mailed to You
A provisional resident record based on the information in the current alien registration card will be mailed in mid-May to those who are eligible for a resident record. When you receive it, please check the contents.

Main Items to Check in Your Provisional Resident Record
□ Check to see if your name, date of birth, sex, nationality (region of origin), etc. are correct.
Note: If your name is in Chinese characters, the characters may be replaced with Japanese kanji characters designated by the Ministry of Justice.
□ Check to see if your current address is written correctly.
□ Check to see if it lists all of your household members.
□ Check to see if the name of the head of your household and your relationship to him/her are correct.
□ Check to see if your visa type and period of stay is the most current.
- If any of the information is written incorrectly, please bring your provisional resident record, foreign resident registration card, and passport to the service counter of the Foreign Resident Records Subsection within the Family Registry and Residents Section of Shinagawa City Office and complete the designated procedures.
Notes:
1. If all the information is correct, you do not need to file a special notification form.
2. In addition to the abovementioned, your provisional resident record will also include such information as your residence card number and National Health Insurance- and child allowance-related items.
3. If you do not receive a provisional resident record by Friday, May 25, please call us.

● Caution
- Unless the information in your current foreign resident registration is correct, a resident record may not be created for you. If you have changed addresses or your visa status of residence has changed or been renewed, please file a notification with the City Office as soon as possible so that we can update our records.
