Juki Net Now Includes Foreign Residents

The countrywide Basic Resident Registration Network System (Juki Net) is used to confirm personal identification among the network of basic resident registers in Japan to make procedures more convenient for residents.

● You Will Be Notified of Your Resident Record Code
A resident record code will be written on your resident record, and a notification on the code will be sent to the head of your household in mid-July. Since you will need to write your resident record code on some administrative procedural forms, please keep this notification stating your resident record code in a safe place. You don't have to do anything after receiving the notification.

● You Can Obtain a Juki Card
The basic resident registration card (Juki card) is an IC card with a high level of security, and a Juki card with a photo can also be used as an official form of personal identification.
Note:
The handling fee for a Juki card is ¥500.
If you use your Juki card to obtain an electronic certificate (handling fee: ¥500), you will be able to conduct administrative procedures—such as filing your national taxes or local tax report electronically, or paying your taxes—from a personal computer at home and elsewhere.

● You Can Use Your Juki Card to File “Moving Out/In” Notifications
If you move to another municipality and use your Juki card to file a notification of your move, you will not need to attach a “moving out” certificate when you file a notification of moving in at the municipal office administering your new address.
If you complete the procedures within the designated period, you can continue to use the Juki card issued at Shinagawa City even after moving to another municipality.

● You Can Apply for a Regional Issue Resident Record
If you show your Juki card, residence card, or special permanent resident certificate (which includes foreign resident registration cards considered equivalent to the residence card or special permanent resident certificate), you can obtain copies of your resident record even when you are outside of Shinagawa City.
When you show your Juki card, you must input the code number registered at the time the Juki card was issued.
