The 25th Traditional Crafts and Tastes of Shinagawa Exhibition
Visitors can experience the tradition and history fostered in Shinagawa, including demonstrations by the skilled professionals of the Shinagawa Traditional Crafts Preservation Group.
Date and time: January 31 (Sat.) and February 1 (Sun.), 10:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. (until 4:30 p.m. on February 1)
Location: Event Hall, Curian 7F (in front of Oimachi Station)
Program: A demonstration of traditional crafts and dishes by skilled professionals, sale of products, a tea ceremony area, sales of products to support the disaster-struck areas of the Great East Japan Earthquake, Shinagawa gift exhibit and sale, and more.
Craft demonstrations: Ukiyo-e printing, Edo-kiriko (Edo cut glass), mokko hikimono (wood lathe work), wasai (Japanese dressmaking), monsho uwae (crest drawing), ribiyo hasami (hairdresser scissors), Tokyo kiritansu (Tokyo paulownia wood chest of drawers), hyogu (picture framing), Tokyo ginki (Tokyo silverware), urushi kogei (lacquerware), kusakizome tebataorimono (textile work using plants as dyes), chochin moji (paper lantern calligraphy), obi shitate (kimono sash tailoring), kanaami (metal mesh), kotto shuri (antique repairing), nihon shishu (Japanese embroidery), and Edo sudare (Edo bamboo blind).
Cooking demonstrations: Typical Japanese dishes and soup, and traditional sweets, tea, rice crackers, shumai (Chinese dumplings), candy, and more
Note: There will be a gift for the first hundred guests to arrive on each day. In addition, ama-zake (sweet mild sake) will be distributed free of charge to the first hundred guests to arrive after 12 noon.
