Large-sized waste (sodai gomi) refers to unneeded household items such as futon bedding, furniture, etc. whose height, width or depth exceeds 30cm on one or more sides.
You must arrange in advance to have large-sized waste collected. You can have such waste picked up at your home, or you can bring your items directly to the Shinagawa City Recycling Center on a Sunday. If you bring the items yourself, the handling fee is lower. Before disposing of an item as large-sized waste, consider whether it might be reused.
(1) Apply to the Shinagawa Large-Sized Waste Reception Center
Hours: Monday through Saturday, 8:00 a.m. to 9:00 p.m.

Note: Please inform the reception center if you plan to deliver the item(s) yourself to the Shinagawa City Recycling Center on a Sunday.

(2) Purchase Large-Sized Waste Stickers
Based on the guidance received when making your reservation with the Waste Reception Center, purchase the required amount of large-sized waste stickers (that is, the handling fee) at a participating Shinagawa City shop, supermarket or convenience store.
(3) Disposing of Your Large-Sized Waste
- Taking items to the designated location for collection
Attach the large-sized waste sticker(s) to your oversized items and take them to the designated location by 8:00 a.m. on the pick-up date.
- Taking items yourself on a Sunday
Attach the necessary large-sized waste stickers to oversized items and take them to the Shinagawa City Recycling Center (1-4-1 Yashio) between 9:00 a.m. and 4:00 p.m. on the designated Sunday.

The following items are not collected as large-sized waste:
〇 Refrigerators, freezers, laundry machines, clothes dryers, TVs, and air-conditioners (indoor/outdoor appliances)
Please ask the shop where you are buying a replacement or the Electric Appliance Recycling Reception Center (Tel: 5296-7200) to handle these types of used items.
〇 The central processing units of personal computer and displays
Please ask the manufacturer to handle these used items. For information on the recycling fees and appropriate handling, please call the service center for the particular manufacturer or the PC3R Promotion Association (Tel: 5282-7685).
〇 Hazardous items, poisonous chemicals, heatresistant safes, etc.
Please ask a specialized dealer to handle such items.
