Discovering the Attractive Qualities of Shinagawa!
One Hundred Scenes of Shinagawa—Oi area
“One Hundred Scenes of Shinagawa” were selected by city residents.
Some shrines and temples related to the ocean remain in the Oi area, which was once facing the sea. The Kyu-Tokaido Street also ran through this area, and much of the scenery here has an atmosphere of history. Oi area also features new spots with water as part of the scenery, such as Shinagawa-kumin Park and Shinagawa Hanakaido*, making the Oi area a relaxing one for residents and visitors alike.
* This program started with an initiative of the local merchants association with the aim of turning the embankment along the Katsushima Canal into a flower garden. Community residents, employees from local businesses and students plant seeds every year. The approximately two-kilometer-long embankment has nanohana blossoms in full bloom in the spring and cosmos in the autumn. |
