The 2020 National Census Is Coming

The national census is a key survey the country is legally compelled to carry out once every five years. The survey includes everyone who lives in Japan, regardless of nationality.
Starting from mid-September, all residents will receive the ID/access key code for responding via the Internet as well as a paper survey sheet. Please use the distributed ID/access key code if you would like to take advantage of the ease of responding online. You can do this easily from your computer or smartphone, whenever it is convenient, on a 24-hour basis.
Response period: From September 14 (Mon.) through October 7 (Wed.).
Note: You can respond online in six languages (English, Chinese, Korean, Portuguese, Spanish and Vietnamese).
If responding online is difficult for you, please mail in your survey sheet between Thursday, October 1 and Wednesday, October 7.
