Strolling through Shinagawa’s Kyu-Tokaido and Its Architecture (Part 2)
Shinagawa-shuku has prospered as a port town since the Middle Ages, during the Edo Period (1603–1868) it was the most popular post town among the fifty-three post stations on the Old Tokaido. Old structures such as temples and shrines as well as examples of billboard architecture (false fronts of buildings done in a Western style) remain along the street, reminding visitors of the lifestyle and culture of the people of old Shinagawa.
