Sheltering-at-Home Recommendation (3)

In this issue we will describe how to prepare portable toilets if you are sheltering at home after a disaster. The use of regular toilets will likely be restricted during a disaster due to blackouts, water outages and damage to water pipes. If there is a blackout, for example, flush toilets will not be able to draw water, and if there is a water outage, you will not be able to flush the toilet. In addition, if you flush the toilet without realizing that the pipes are damaged, filthy water may flow backward and the toilet(s) on lower floors may overflow. In addition, if you eat less or drink less water due to the restricted use of toilets, it may be harmful to your health.
To avoid any problems during a disaster, it’s a good idea to use portable toilets, which can be placed on top of your regular household toilet. It’s best to prepare at least a three-day supply of portable toilets for the entire family, with five or six times per person per day as a rough usage guideline. In addition, if you regularly keep your bathtub full, you can use the water for everyday living in an emergency.
